Have you ever been somewhere & you stop and think "What the heck am I doing here?!" That was me on Friday night!! Allow me to explain.
My husband is the editor of our local newspaper and he gets invited to a lot events, most are during the work day, and some are after hours. This past Friday I attended an event with him & here is what I thought it was
A tour of the floats that were going to be in the Rose Parade...Ok sounds fun right? So I get dressed, jeans, shirt, light sweater and I was THISCLOSE to throwing on some sneakers for this "tour"
What it really was:
A reception for the grand Marshall of the parade(read JR MARTINEZ!), the court & all the head folks of float decorating at a members only mansion type club, via LIMO!!
I'll give you a minute to imagine how mortified I was!
So I was sent BACK home to Change since this was a no jeans event & I discovered I do not do "business casual"! At work I wear workout pants and a polo! On the weekends plain ol casual! So almost tearfully I squeeze on this knee length skirt, a nice shirt, & flats! I felt frumpy & out of place! & I couldn't really blame the husband because he said he didn't know, & he too was dressed "casual".
So anyway fast forward past the fancy limo ride complete with champagne, & we arrive! This party had those people walking around serving food, several open bars, & a Buffett of appetizers(the only good part of the evening! I still have dreams about that amazing coffee!) We were at a table with some people from a car company and some rose float members and they started asking how long we have been doing float and what our theme was...Uh What!? Can't a girl just enjoy her Mashtini!? I had NO answer for them and that is is exactly when I had that WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING HERE!? moment! All I know is a float costs around 75K to build & not to volunteer because they just put you to clean up! ha.
Anyone available to go business casual shopping!?
=(

And this is the reason why you missed my WonTons?!?! SO HEARTBROKEN! =/ You could have shown up in PJ's at my place and I would have been happy! LoL I would have ran to my room to put on PJ bottoms....yes, I was wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and slippers! Missed you guys that night...the fight wasn't good...but the food was! =)
YIKES!!!! I wouldn't have been a happy lady either.
I'm glad you made it through and that the food was yummy. :-)
If you lived here, I'd totally go clothes shopping with you!
Omg, showing up somewhere wearing the wrong clothes is a recurring nightmare of mine. I have been known to do emergency shopping trips to Kmart for 'business casual' and other such vague attire instructions, which never ends well.
Ugh business casual is so vague!!!
I HATE when this kind of thing happens. My husband is an engineer for a very large oil field services company, and last summer we had to go to a dinner with his bosses. I was too dressed up, then right after sitting at the table, one boob popped out of my strapless bra (thankfully still covered by the dress). So now I interrogate my husband about events before hand, and I got rid of that bra lol.
I've been there. When I attended my first military ball, I kept asking people what to wear and they kept telling me cocktail attire. So, I went and bought this little black dress - cocktail attire appropriate - and felt so out of place when I showed up and everyone was wear ball gowns! Worse. feeling. ever.
My suggestion is go get one cocktail dress and one fancy dress and keep them in your closet. You never know when you may need it :)
Ugh, I hate when I show up somewhere and I'm not wearing the right clothes! It's actually a big fear of mine.
I hate when that happens...I feel out of place and like an ass.
That's why I try to overdress to everything. I hate when people don't tell you exactly how they want you to dress for stuff!
Very interesting... I really like it... Thank you so much...
